Imagined or Intuitive? Understanding Spiritual Messages

When I first became aware of my spiritual connection, I thought I was crazy. It was difficult to reconcile that something that felt so real was only happening in my head. Viewing it from the perspective of a person who was still spiritually asleep and burdened with societal programming; How could this communication that came with so much love and support be made up?

When I became spiritually aware, communication began as another voice in my head, familiar but not mine. It felt as if it was coming from outside of my body and landing in my mind. Its presence always came with moments of insight and a resonance that made sure I paid attention. It was never demanding or judgmental, instead came wrapped in unconditional love and compassion. It began subtle but the more I tuned in each time I felt the energy, it slowly became louder, eventually shifting from words to images.

The Inner Experience

People receive spiritual messages in different ways. A ‘voice’ in your mind that carries a different energy, and synchronistic events that confirm an inner knowing. Some experience visions, intense or prophetic dreams, and lucid projections. What’s important isn’t quite how the message is delivered, rather the message itself.

Focusing on the message becomes the best indicator whether it is true or not. A reminder that imagination is the language of consciousness. It is the easiest and most common method Spirit uses to communicate with us. Of course, it’s normal for the conscious mind to rationalize the experience as overactive imagination or wishful thinking. Cognitive patterns, fear, or old conditioning can muddy the signal.

Resonance is key, that feeling of alignment, or the ‘knowing’ rather than mental tug of war. Does the message prompt insight or a shift in perception? Or does it lead to confusion? Does your body and mind feel expanded and calm? Or constricted and limited? True messages tend to prompt insight, shift perception, and leave the body calmer and more open. If confusion or constriction follows, the message may be tangled with fear or rationalization.

You can test your guidance by acting on small nudges and watching the outcome. It can begin simple with a leisure drive for example. Listen to the intuitive nudges to go in a different direction than you’d normally go and see where you end up. Personally, I’ve found some truly beautiful places with this experiment.

It is important to cultivate discernment as you become more comfortable trusting the messages you receive. The egoic mind can do a good job of imitating intuition. That’s why it’s important to quiet the mind to notice the difference between the egoic desire and higher guidance. This doesn’t silence the curiosity but create space for the subtle signals to reveal themselves. This helps distinguish egoic wanting from genuine guidance, whether it is pointing to something useful or simply protecting old wounds.

The Path of Knowing

Everyone has the capacity to tune into their own higher consciousness. But this comes with the knowing that doubt is normal and is actually a sign of growth. Explore the doubt, don’t push it away instead see what if what the doubt is trying to tell you is true or not. That is the only way for you to ease yourself into trust with Spirit’s communication.

As always, courage is required and so is practice. This unfolding didn’t happen overnight for me, and it continues to be a process of learning and re-learning. But remember, it can also be fun! Having access to your own higher mind opens a version of you, you might not yet know, and that discovery can be profoundly liberating.

The heart of the journey is learning to trust yourself. Whether the message arrives as a whisper, an image, or a synchronicity, the question isn’t just imagined or intuitive, it’s how you choose to understand and embody your spiritual messages.
