What It Really Means to Be a Spiritual Being Having a Human Experience

As spiritual beings in human form we sometimes forget the magic of our humanity. Yet this is what it really means to be a spiritual being having a human experience, to hold both the divine and the earthly within us.

We often get stuck thinking that being human is somehow less than, and that life is mostly filled with darkness, strife, negative emotions and experiences. It’s true that life can be all those things. And it’s also filled with lightness, adventures, breakthroughs, growth, and joy.

You see the thing about being in human form is that we get to experience all of it. It’s important to realize that negative experiences aren’t punishment, they are reflections of an internal state. When there’s discord within us, whether from outdated beliefs or unhealed emotions, our physical reality mirrors it back to us. It’s the Universe’s way of saying, “This part of you needs your attention”.

The Joy of Human Senses

The longer you ignore the signs, the louder they become until you simply cannot ignore them anymore. Your spiritual allies often communicate through subtle nudges, but they cannot make the choice for you. That’s why it’s important to follow those intuitive nudges, especially before they make logical sense. They are literally guiding you toward the most aligned outcome.

Being human means we get to experience existence through our five physical senses. We get to see the beauty of a sunrise, smell the rain before it comes, listen to rhythmic vibrations called music, taste the creamy sweetness of ice-cream, and feel the rough texture of a tree bark. These are simple miracles, unavailable in quite the same way in spirit form.

When we are in Spirit, we mostly just get to observe these sensations, with the knowledge, memory of how they feel but never truly getting to experience them. We can recall the knowledge of the Universe, all of our existences, and even the choice we made to incarnate on Earth. But the joy of being human lies precisely in the feeling of life, in the immersion, not just the observation.

A simple practice:

1.      Whether seated or lying down, make yourself as comfortable as possible. Let your body become heavy and allow the surface beneath you to fully hold your weight.

2.      Take three slow, intentional breaths. Feel your stomach expand with each inhale and contract with each exhale. Keep your attention on the sensations of your breath.

3.      Bring to mind a positive memory — a moment that brought you joy. Let yourself re-live it. See it, hear it, feel it.

4.      Notice how vividly you can recall the event, how easily the emotions return. Also notice that you’re observing from a perspective, perhaps from above or through your own eyes, but you can’t physically re-feel the sensations, only the emotions they carry.

Feeling the Earth

This gives you a glimpse of how spirit perceives physical existence, observing, remembering, and feeling through energy rather than touch. The same principle applies in hypnosis when we revisit alternate lifetimes: we become the observer.

This is where the joy of being human resides, in lived experiences. It’s the difference between intellectually understanding something and embodying the experience.

As always, courage is required to embrace that contrasting experiences are why we decided to be human. Our spiritual selves made that choice, for many reasons, and only for a relatively short time. So, instead of making your experience on this planet only focused on the negative, embrace even in the tiniest ray of sunshine on an otherwise cloudy day.
